What’s really important?

22 February 2024

People always debate about whether money can buy happiness.

Since my last post I’ve been thinking a lot about this.

I’ve been reading some ancient Greek and Stoic philosophy recently – which hasn’t helped – but it got me thinking. And it almost had me at the point where I was thinking to write a post about how money doesn’t matter because money is just a token and what matters is what you do with your tokens.

But I’m not going to write about that.

Instead, I’m going to say that money does matter.

Money matters because it puts a roof over my head and my family’s.

Money matters because it puts food on our tables.

And it pays for the nursery fees and Netflix subscription.

More importantly money bought the new bike I got my 7 year old son for his birthday, which we went out on together last week.

This isn’t a MasterCard advert, but I want to refocus that money is important, because, used wisely, it is a token which gives us the ability to do the things that are important to us. That’s why we care about money.

What’s important about money to you?
